Fulfilled Dreams

Waylon’s Salmon fishing dream

Man and boy holding large fish on boat.

Meet Waylon from Raymond, WA! 🐟

Waylon is a remarkable 8-year-old who has shown incredible

strength in the face of adversity. Just one week after his 5th birthday, he was diagnosed with a brain tumor, requiring three major surgeries to partially remove the tumor and relieve pressure in his brain. Despite facing paralysis from two of these procedures, Waylon has courageously regained his movements, though he still battles balance issues and double vision.

This brave young fighter has shown resilience beyond his years, overcoming challenges that many adults would find overwhelming. Waylon continues to be monitored closely by his oncologist and undergoes regular MRI scans, remaining on standby for further cancer treatments if necessary.

Fishing brings Waylon immense comfort and joy. Whether he’s by the water or reeling in his latest catch, Waylon is happiest with a fishing rod in hand. His dream? To embark on a fishing trip of a lifetime, where he can continue learning about the fish he catches and experience the thrill of trying his hand at reeling in different species.

Recently, Outdoor Dreams board member Jeff Hulse and volunteer deck hand Jeremy made Waylon’s dream come true by taking him and his parents on a memorable fishing trip to Sekiu, WA. Waylon, along with his mom, Burgandy, and dad, Brian, all limited out on salmon in short order, bringing home an entire cooler full of fish. This trip was an incredible adventure for the entire family, giving them cherished memories before their second child was born and provided them some normalcy after years of ensuring Waylon has been prioritized.

We can’t thank Jeff Hulse and volunteer Jeremy enough for their generosity in making this day possible. Their kindness and dedication to creating a once-in-a-lifetime experience for Waylon will never be forgotten.
