Fulfilled Dreams
We are incredibly proud to share the extraordinary experience of Braedon’s first elk hunt—a journey defined by determination, patience, and an unforgettable triumph.
At just 16 years old, Braedon has faced more obstacles than many of us could ever imagine. He lives with Alström Syndrome, a rare and complex genetic disorder that affects multiple organs, including his heart, kidneys, liver, vision, and hearing. Despite these overwhelming challenges—especially his severe heart condition and legal blindness—Braedon’s spirit shines through in every challenge.
For this hunt, everything had to align perfectly to give him the best opportunity, and Braedon embraced this challenge with his characteristic optimism and resilience. The journey wasn’t easy. Braedon and his father faced grueling overnight travel delays, yet their spirits remained high, knowing how much this hunt meant to both of them.
When Braedon finally encountered a bull elk on the second day of the hunt, his anticipation was almost tangible. His usually calm demeanor gave way to rapid breathing and uncontrollable shaking, reflecting the intensity of the moment. But when it mattered most, Braedon delivered. With precision and poise, he made a flawless shot on a beautiful 5×5 bull on video—a moment of triumph that he and his father will cherish forever.
This trip was more than just a hunt for Braedon; it was a critical opportunity to experience joy and normalcy in the face of ongoing medical challenges. After this incredible adventure, Braedon will undergo a liver biopsy and eventually have a heart pump installed to help manage his heart condition. These upcoming procedures are vital steps toward making him a candidate for a heart transplant—a difficult journey that will test both Braedon and his family in the coming months.
Throughout these challenging times, Braedon finds strength in sharing his outdoor adventures with his doctors, nurses and family. The memories from this hunt lift his spirits and give him something to look forward to, making a significant difference in how he copes with the tough road ahead. As his dad shared, “This trip is truly a blessing for Braedon and me. This is by far the best hunting and fishing trip we have ever experienced, and we would love to thank everyone involved for making this happen for Braedon.”
The emotional impact of this hunt was felt by everyone involved, particularly our president and founder, Conlan McConnell, and volunteer Jeff Kunkel, who were profoundly moved by Braedon’s strength and determination. It seems like God was looking out for Braedon on this trip, guiding him through this life-changing experience.
We owe a deep debt of gratitude to Jeff Hulse, Tony Bender, Jesse Toben, Bob and Jeanne Anderson, David and Shay Ellis, Matt Yore with Sawtooth Rifles, Unknown Munitions, Vortex Optics, Really Right Stuff Tripods, Jeff Kunkel, Tino Villaluz, and all the other many generous donors who helped make Braedon’s dream a reality. Your support has gifted him and his father an experience that will stay with them forever.
Braedon’s journey is ongoing, and this successful hunt has filled him with renewed strength and hope for the battles ahead. At the same time, the work of Outdoor Dreams is far from over. We are committed to providing more children like Braedon with the opportunity to experience the healing power of the outdoors, but we can’t do it alone.
Please consider making a donation to help us continue creating these life-changing experiences for deserving children. Every contribution, big or small, makes a difference. Donations can be made here: [Donate](https://outdoordreams.us/donate).
