Fulfilled Dreams
Hunting isn’t just about taking a shot; it’s about patience, learning, and embracing the journey. For 13-year-old Bentley, this experience was about more than just harvesting an elk; it was a chance to challenge himself, embrace an adventure, and soak in everything the outdoors had to offer.
Bentley has faced significant loss, losing both of his parents in two separate tragedies. Now living with his grandparents in Lewistown, Montana, he has found comfort in the outdoors. His grandfather, a lifelong hunter, takes him out every chance he gets and does his best to keep up with Bentley’s love for hunting. When we learned about his story through Montana guide and Outdoor Dreams board member Josh Sanofsky, we knew he was the perfect fit for this opportunity. As Outdoor Dreams continues to give back to the Montana community that has supported us in so many ways, Bentley became our first local Montana kid to receive a dream hunt; an unforgettable experience at the legendary N Bar Ranch.
The Hunt
Guided by Josh Sanofsky, Justin Taylor, and Ted Allison, Bentley set out in the breathtaking landscape and wide open spaces of the N Bar Ranch for his first elk hunt. From the start, he showed the patience and mindset of a seasoned hunter.
Bentley remained calm and composed behind the rifle, always putting ethics first. He carefully evaluated every shot opportunity, ensuring there were no other elk in front of or behind his target. There were several moments where elk were just out of range or facing straight away, preventing a clear shot. Even as chances slipped away, Bentley never got discouraged; his enthusiasm never wavered, and he stayed focused on the hunt.
Finally, the right moment came. A mature cow elk presented the right shot, and Bentley executed the shot perfectly. His patience and discipline paid off in the best way possible. Throughout the hunt, he was quiet, humble, and highly attentive, soaking in every bit of knowledge and guidance given to him.
A Special Thanks
This hunt wouldn’t have been possible without the generosity of the Wilks brothers and the N Bar Ranch, who have graciously supported our mission and provided opportunities like this for kids who truly deserve them. Montana guide and Outdoor Dreams board member Josh Sanofsky, along with Justin Taylor and Ted Allison, played a pivotal role in guiding Bentley throughout this hunt, making it an unforgettable experience.
A huge thank you also goes to our generous donors who made this hunt possible. Moments like these wouldn’t happen without the support of those who believe in changing lives through the power of the outdoors.
Bentley’s hunt was more than just an opportunity to harvest an elk; it was a moment of healing, confidence-building, and proving to himself that he is capable of taking on any challenge. We are honored to have played a part in his journey and look forward to seeing where his passion for the outdoors takes him next.
